This was incredibly useful, thank you. As an amateur hockey blogger for a European team, how would you recommend trying to calculate xG by tracking it manually during a game? I've heard you can do it manually with a printout, but any advice you have would be appreciated!
You'd basically need shot data (i.e. location, shot time, shot result) for the entire league for at least a full season. Then determine in the % of shots with those parameters was a goal. then after all that you could figure out in a game the xG for each shot. As far as i know you can't do it just from a single shot chart from a single game

those are probably good enough. you essentially get Fenwick for free by tracking Corsi. that'd be good to track too
