Vermonster of a Weekend (Week 14 Preview)
Both Terrier squads face off against Vermont, with the women on the road and the men at home
The Terriers and Vermont Catamounts matchup double with the men (9-7-1, HEA 5-3-1 (T-2nd)) taking them on at Agganis Arena and the women (12-5-1, HEA: 10-2-1 (1st)) taking them on at Gutterson Fieldhouse in Burlington, VT. It is the second straight year the men’s and women’s teams are playing each other at the same time.
Women’s
The league leading Terriers travel to Vermont (January 10th/11th, 6pm both nights) to face the Catamounts in their last series before the Women’s Beanpot begins.
Vermont
(4-15-2, HEA (8th): 3-9-2)
The series will be the first two of a three game set, with the third coming February 1st at Walter Brown Arena.
The Catamounts come into the series off of a 3-5 loss to Providence and a 2-3 loss to UConn. Since November 1st Vermont has just two wins, holding a 2-9-2 record in that span. Vermont is led by junior Lara Beecher (3-7—10) and senior Evelyne Blais-Savoie who leads the team with 5 goals. Only 7 Catamounts have recorded 2+ goals this season. In net, senior Jane Gervais has start most games and holds a 2.71 GAA and .905 SV%. Despite only 4 wins, Gervais has recorded 2 shutouts—vs. St. Lawrence on October 18th and vs. Providence in a 0-0 tie on November 16th.
The Terriers enter the weekend after shutting out Holy Cross 3-0 to start the 2nd half. It was goalie Callie Shanahan’s third of the season and 6th of her career. Christina Vote scored her first goal of the season that turned out to be the game winning goal. Only 3 current Terriers have scored a goal vs. Vermont—Sydney Healey, Clara Yuhn, and Maggie Hanzel. Clara Yuhn leads all Terriers with 6 points against the Catamounts.

Men’s
The Terriers return home for their first home game of the second half with two games vs. Vermont (January 10th/11th 7 pm / 5 pm).
Vermont

Like their counterparts on the women’s side, the men’s team will play the first two of a three game set against Vermont, with the third game being the last game of the season in Vermont on March 8th.
The Catamounts enter the weekend off an 8-1 win over St. Lawrence and winners of 5 in a row. 8 different Catamounts scored in the win with senior Simon Jellus adding 2 assists to record his 3rd multipoint game and 2nd vs. St. Lawrence in as many games, with the last coming October 13th, 2022. Vermont is led by freshman forward Max Strand (6-12—18), senior Joel Maata (4-12—16), and freshman Colin Kessler (7-8—15) who leads the Catamounts in goals. Sophomore Axel Mungbo holds a 2.09 GAA and .917 SV% in net for the Catamounts and has 3 shutouts, tied for 2nd most among Hockey East goalies.
The Terriers return home coming off a terrible 5-7 loss to Yale, a game in which they led multiple times. Quinn Hutson and Alex Zetterberg each scored multiple goals in the effort, but it was not enough. Fresh from the World Juniors, Team USA Gold Medalists Cole Hutson, Cole Eiserman, and Brandon Svoboda return to add much needed offense along with Swedish World Juniors player Tom Willander.
Co-captain Ryan Greene leads all current Terriers with 8 points vs. the Catamounts, but has yet to score a goal against them. Quinn Hutson leads all current Terriers with 6 goals vs. the Catamounts, but has yet to record an assist against them. Devin Kaplan is the only other Terrier to score more than one goal vs. Vermont.
