Striding to Victory (Week 4 Recap)
The women earn their first win while the men split with UConn in their home and home series
The women win their first game of the season as the men redeem themselves after a disastrous Friday night, to earn the split with UConn.
Women’s
UNH (4-2 W)

The Terriers finally get in the win column in their 6th game of the season, beating the UNH Wildcats 4-2.
Kaileigh Quigg opened the scoring for BU late in the 1st with her first career short-handed goal at 17:58. Just under a minute later, UNH tied things up going into the intermission. In the second, the Wildcats took the lead at 13:58. It was all BU after that, Freshman Lucy Thiessen scored her first goal in Scarlet and White on the power play at 14:37, to tie things up. In the third, Terriers’ leading scorer Sydney Healey gave the Terriers the lead at 3:53 and sealed it with an empty netter at 19:34. With her two goals and assist on Thiessen’s goal, Healey recorded her 3rd career 3+ point game, recording one in each of the last 3 seasons.
The Terriers killed 4 of 5 penalties. BU also outshot UNH 40-29, holding them to just 14 shots in the first two periods. Michelle Pasiechnyk earned her first win as a Terrier, stopping 27 of 29 Wildcat shots. BU was 64.8% at the face off dot, with Lilli Welcke leading the way, winning 19 of 26 (73.1%), Anežka Čabelová was also stellar at the dot, winning 8 of 10.
BU won their Hockey East opener for the 5th time in 6 seasons and 14th overall.

For the 4th time in program history and the first time since 2021-22, BU’s first win of the season comes against UNH
The Terriers’ first win came in their Skating Strides alternative jerseys, they also won their sole game in their Skating Strides jerseys last season.
Men’s
UConn (4-8 L, 3-1 W)

Looking to right the ship at home, the Terriers again fell, this time to a conference foe. Owen McLaughlin opened the scoring at 6:03 in the first, his first as a Terrier and second at Agganis Arena—he scored for North Dakota on November 4th, 2023. Just over a minute and a half later, Cole Eiserman doubled BU’s lead with his 6th of the season, and 24th Agganis Arena goal in 23 games at the arena. UConn tied thing up in the second half of the period with goals at 14:32 and 19:02.
Two minutes into the 2nd, Owen McLaughlin again gave the Terriers the lead, his first multi-goal game as a Terrier and first overall since February 1st, 2025 vs. SCSU as a member of UND. Again, UConn tied it at 4:32. Jack Murtagh, facing his brother Mike for the first time, restored the Terriers’ lead with his second in Scarlet and White, at 4:55. Malte Vass recorded his first multipoint game as a Terrier, assisting on both goals in the 2nd. It was all UConn after that, scoring 5 unanswered. Max Lacroix relieved Yegorov after UConn’s first 3rd period goal at 1:04.
On Saturday night, the Terriers headed to Storrs looking for redemption. Jack Harvey opened the scoring with his first of the season on the power play at 19:40 in the first. The goal ended an 8 PPO drought for the Terriers.
In the second, Owen McLaughlin doubled BU’s lead at 11:22, his first power play goal as a Terrier and first overall since January 27th, 2024 vs. Denver as a member of North Dakota. UConn cut into BU’s lead at 13:43. Jack Harvey restored the two goal lead for the Scarlet and White at 15:11. His first multi-goal game since February 9th, 2024, the night of his first goal as a Terrier.
A night after allowing 6 goals to the Huskies, Mikhail Yegorov, allowed just 1, stopping 24 of 25 shots on goal—recording GSAx of 1.67.
For the 2nd straight Saturday, the Terriers took just 2 penalties for 4 PIM.
After back to back 2 point games, Owen McLaughlin, now leads the Terriers with 3 multipoint games on the season.

19 different Terriers have recorded a point through 6 games, the most since 2020-21
BU remains undefeated in UConn on campus rinks, improving to 3-0-1 in Storrs—1-0-0 at Freitas Ice Forum and 2-0-1 at Toscano.
Advanced Stats
Game 1
Despite holding the xG (+0.8), Scoring Chance (+7), and OZone Possession (+3:03) edge, BU could not get the puck into the net. The Terriers also held the puck battle edge 51%-49% and maintained possession at EV 57% of the time.
Per Period xG: 1st (1.72-0.99, BU), 2nd (0.84-1.97, UConn), 3rd (1.88-0.67, BU)
A game after having his worst game as a Terrier (-2.7351), Jack Murtagh’s fortune swung back the other way with his best game as a Terrier in terms of Game Score (2.9424). It was the best performance by a Terrier since the Colgate series. This was also by far Malte Vass’s best game (2.5419) as a Terrier after recording scores of sub .25 in his other 6 games.
Both teams 5 high danger shots (1.46 xG - 1.15 xG) while 2 of UConn’s resulted in goals, 4 of BU’s 5 were saved and the other missed the net. Jack Murtagh’s 2nd period goal had 3% percentage chance of scoring.
As the game went back and forth through the first 2 periods, BU maintain the xG edge up until the waning minutes of the 2nd. UConn took advantage of the momentum swing, pocketing 2 in the first half of the 3rd and essentially sealing the game.
3 of the Terriers with 15+ mins of TOI record a xG% over 60, with Ryder Ritchie recording a whopping 81.22%.
Game 2
Despite all the edges that UConn had in terms of advanced stats, the Terriers still got the win. The 1.71 xG is the Terriers lowest in the Jay Pandolfo era. It is also the 3rd time (of 4) in the era that they record <2 xG and got the win.
It was the first time Jack Harvey was the Terriers’ top performer since BU faced Cornell in the NCAA Tournament. Owen McLaughlin had his best weekend as a Terrier, putting up 4.0973 on the weekend.
UConn recorded 5 high danger shots (1.25 xG)—4 of which were saved by Mikhail Yegorov (.9 xG)—while BU recorded just 1 (.25 xG) which was saved. Two of the Terriers’ 3 goals (the two, second period goals) had a xG < .09.
From the Terriers’ 1st goal through the last minute of the 2nd, the xG differential did not drift past .19.
Despite the result, Jack Harvey as the only Terrier to play more than 6 mins of TOI to record a xG% over 50.
