Happy Woo Year! (Week 13 Recap)
The Terriers shut out the Holy Cross Crusaders to start 2025 off with a bang
The women start the new year the same way they ended the old year, with a road conference win.
Women’s
Holy Cross (3-0 W)
Christina Vote opened the scoring with her first goal of the season and 50th point of her career on the power play early in the second. The point ties Vote with freshman Lola Reid for the team lead at 13. Riley Walsh scored the Terriers only even strength goal of the game midway through the second. The goal was Walsh’s 4th road goal of the season, she has scored 67% of her goals away from home. Captain Tamara Giaquino added an insurance goal on the power play at 5:47 in the third. All five of Giaquinto’s goals this season have been on the power play, and she leads all Terriers in that category. Giaquinto is also the Hockey East leader in power play goals and tied for 7th nationally.
The Terriers held the Crusaders to just 15 shots on goal. It was the 7th time this season, they held an opponent to less than 20 shots in a game. On the PK, BU held Holy Cross to just 3 shots on goal—BU recorded 2 on the PK.
BU was a perfect 7-7 on the penalty kill, including a 5-minute major penalty kill. It was the 13th game this season that they’ve been perfect on the PK. The 7-7 kill is their best PK performance since going 8-8 vs. Syracuse on October 21st, 2023.
Callie Shanahan recorded her 3rd shutout of the season. Shanahan joins Kerrin Sperry (2x), Melissa Haber (2x), Allyse Wilcox, and Corinne Schroeder as the only goaltenders in program history to record 3+ shutouts in a season. The 15 save effort was the fewest saves needed to record the shutout in her BU career.
With the win, the Terriers end their 3 game losing streak to the Crusaders, and give them their first win at the Hart Center since January 28th, 2022. It was also coach Tara Wachorn’s first road win over Holy Cross. The win also gives the Terriers their 33rd conference point, matching their season total from the 2022-23 season.
