Good Splits and Bad Splits (Week 10 Recap)
The women split with UConn and the men split with Vermont
The women earned a big split with UConn while the men recorded a heartbreaking split with Vermont.
Women’s
Connecticut (1-1 T (SOW), 2-3 L)
A hard fought, tight game in Storrs saw the Terriers earn a big 2 conference points on Friday night. After a scoreless first, Sydney Healey opened the scoring at 10:02 in the 2nd on the PK. Healey’s 2nd shorthanded goal of her career, both coming this season. Five minutes later, UConn tied things up at 16:50. It was the last goals scored by both team, as a scoreless third and overtime saw the teams head to a shootout. In the shootout, Healey and Lilli Welcke scored for the Terriers, and Mari Pietersen saved 2 of the Huskies 3 shots to claim the shootout win. Healey has scored in both of the Terriers’ shootouts this season. The shootout win ended a 6 game losing streak to UConn dating back to January 13th, 2024.
Pietersen was stellar, saving 42 of 43 shots, two off her career high of 44—set on October 3rd, 2025. The Terriers were a perfect 3-3 on the PK.
On Saturday, Lilli Welcke opened the scoring at 4:17 of the second after a scoreless first. Welcke’s second career goal against the Huskies and first since January 13th, 2024. Later in the period, UConn tied it up on the power play at 13:54. The Huskies took the lead at 2:08 in the third. With the goalie pulled, Avery Supryka scored her first as a Terrier to tie things up at 15:53. With just 7 seconds to play, UConn potted the game winner.

Men’s
Vermont (2-1 W, 2-3 L)

Just as he did at Madison Square Garden, Kamil Bednarik opened the scoring for the Terriers at 14:44 in the first, his 4th of the season, doubling his total from last season. It was also his first career 5 on 5 goal. BU outshot UVM 13-4 in the period, but only came away with the one goal.
In the second, Charlie Trethewey scored his first of the season at 14:38 in the second. Trethewey is the 18th different Terrier to score a goal this season, the 6th straight season the Terriers have had 18+ goalscorers and the fastest to that total since 2020-21. Jack Harvey recorded an assist on both goals to record his 15th career multipoint game and second of the season—first since October 25th vs. UConn. Unlike the first, it was the Catamounts who outshot the Terriers 17-7.
In the third, Vermont finally got on the board at 9:08 of the period to cut into the Terriers lead, but it was not enough. BU held on for the win, the win was the team’s 10 against Vermont under Jay Pandolfo, the first team they have reached that milestone against.
Despite a better performance on Saturday night, the Terriers saw a worse result. Vermont struck first at 4:13 in the period. Cole Eiserman struck back a few minutes later with his 8th of the season and first goal at Agganis Arena since October 24th vs. UConn. For the second straight night, BU held UVM to just 4 shots in the period, outshooting them 14-4, however on this night the teams went into intermission tied.
In the 2nd, the Catamounts again took the lead at 14:46 in the period.
At 10:07 in the third, Nick Roukounakis, tied things up for the Terriers, scoring his 3rd of the season and first at Agganis Arena. With just 21 seconds to go in the game, another last minute dagger for the Terriers, as Vermont scored the game winner at 19:39. The loss was the first to Vermont under Jay Pandolfo, the last remaining conference foe to beat the Terriers under his regime.

Charlie Trethewey is the first Terrier goalscorer to wear a number in the 90s since Matt Gilroy (97) on February 27th, 2009 vs. UMass
Nick Roukounakis is the 3rd Terrier Nick to score a goal on the Feast Day of St. Nicholas, after Nick Vachon (1991 vs. NU) and Nick Bonino (2008 vs. BC)
Saturday night was the first time since March 30th, 2024 vs. Minnesota (2024 West Regional Final) both BU and their opponent did not take a penalty

Game 1
The Terriers earned the win in an even game with the Catamounts. At even strength, UVM held the possession edge 55% to 45%. Puck Battles were even at 50% each. BU dominated OZone draws 61% to 35% and DZone draws 65% to 39% while Vermont took Neutral Zone faceoffs 41%-59%.

Jack Harvey was the team’s top performer for the first time since October 25th vs. UConn. Kamil Bednarik recorded the 2nd highest xG Conversion of the season at 28, behind Sascha Boumedienne’s goal vs. Michigan State on October 17th.
Kamil Bednarik led the way, winning 6 of 7 OZone draws, while Jonathan Morrello won 7 of 8 DZone draws.
BU recorded 0 high danger shots for the second time this season—last time October 31st vs. Maine. Mikhail Yegorov saved all 5 Vermont high danger chances (1.29 xG). BU’s goals had a combined .1 xG.
After the first period, BU was at an xG deficit for the entirety of the rest of the game, maxing out at the end at -1.6.
All but 2 Terriers: Sascha Boumedienne and Jack Harvey record xG% over 50, while 10 recorded xG% under 40.
Game 2
The Terriers performed better on Saturday, except in the most important metric—goals. BU had nearly double UVM’s OZone Possession and overall held the possession edge 58% - 42%. In an inverse of Friday night it was Vermont that had the edge in Faceoffs winning in the OZone 42%-53% and DZone 47%-58% while BU had the neutral zone edge at the dot 59%-41%.

Gavin McCarthy had one of his best games as a Terrier in terms of Game Score, surpassing his season best of 2.6151 vs. Northeastern on November 21st at Matthews Arena. It is his third-best game after the 2025 Beanpot Semifinal vs. Harvard (5.1696) and 3.3526 against Providence on February 17th, 2024
The Terriers recorded just 1 high danger shot, Nick Roukounakis’ 3rd period goal (.25 xG) while Vermont had 2 (.49 xG) one was saved by Mikhail Yegorov and one was UVM’s 3rd period goal.
The Terriers held the xG edge for the entirety of the game yet could not find the back of the net.
10 of 15 Terriers recorded an xG% over 50 with Brandon Svoboda leading the way with 80.12% in his 21 minutes on the ice.
