Stop me if you’ve heard this before, BU visits Ingalls Rink on December 29th to face the Yale Bulldogs. The exact same scenario they were in last season, closing out 2023 with a December 29th game vs. Yale. The Terriers came out victors 6-1, with Devin Kaplan recording a team-high 3 pts (0-3—3) and Dylan Peterson and Shane Lachance each potting 2.
Yale enters on a 3 game losing streak and losers of 5 of their last 6, getting shut out twice in that span by Clarkson and Long Island University (LIU). The Bulldogs are led by a trio of freshmen Ronan O’Donnell (4-3—7), Zach Wagnon (1-5—6), and Donovan Frias (4-2—6), with Frias (Nov 8th vs. Cornell) and O’Donnell (Nov. 22 vs. St. Lawrence) each recording multi-goal games. Yale features a pair of twins, Donovan and Julian Frias. In goal, Jack Stark has recorded a majority of the minutes in goal for the Bulldogs holding a 3.50 GAA and .886 SV%.
The Terriers enter the game off of a split of UMass Amherst, including scoring 4 unanswered goals at the Mullins Center in a 4-2 before the break. Cole Hutson contributed to all four goals (2-2—4). The first Terrier four point game since Jeremy Wilmer on February 24th, 2024 who recorded 4 vs. UConn. With the 2025 World Junior Championship in full swing, the Scarlet and White will be without a quartet of skaters with Coles Hutson and Eiserman along with Brandon Svoboda representing the US and Tom Willander representing Sweden. The four have contributed 32.1% of goals and 26.6% of points for BU. Goalie Mathieu Caron holds a 2-2-0 record vs. Yale—including his time at Brown—with a .920 SV% and 2.07 GAA.
Co-captains Ryan Greene and Shane Lachance each have scored 3 goals vs. ECAC opponents, with Greene leading all current Terriers with 6 pts in those games. Assistant captains Quinn Hutson and Devin Kaplan each have recorded 5 pts in ECAC games.
The trip to Yale will be the first time the Terriers and Bulldogs will face off at the same venue in back-to-back matchups since December 7th, 1988 and December 6th 1996 both at Ingalls.
Records
It is the first time BU will play a non-conference foe at the same rink on the same date in back to back years since Dartmouth (12/27) at Boston Arena in 1956 and 1957 Boston Arena Christmas Tourney
