The Terriers and Catamounts face off in the Hockey East Quarterfinals for the first time since 2016. BU won that series 2-1—winning game one 3-0, before losing game two 2-4, and winning game three 6-1.
In the regular season, the teams split a weekend series in Burlington (2-1, 3-4) prior to the Beanpot—January 10th and 11th—before the Terriers took the rubber match at Walter Brown Arena on February 1st (4-1). Lilli Welcke leads the team with 4 points against the Catamounts this season. Sydney Healey has 3 goals against Vermont this season, including a 2 goal game last time out at Walter Brown.
The #8 Catamounts secured their spot in the quarterfinal with an overtime win over the #9 seed Holy Cross Crusaders. UVM dominated shots on goal in the game, recording 10+ shots in all 4 frames, doubling up Holy Cross 43-20. In overtime, shots on goal were 11-0. Catamount Oona Havana remained hot, extending her point streak to 4 games with two assists in the win. 5 of her 10 points this season have come during the streak. Vermont native sophomore Cecilia DesLauriers recorded the game winner, her third of the season and third of her career.
Saturday’s game will be the first quarterfinal the Terriers have hosted since 2020. The team hosted an opening round game the past two seasons, but have not won a Hockey East tournament game since 2019—a sweep of UNH at Walter Brown on March 1st and 2nd (5-1, 3-1).
