The BU men’s squad end their 2024 slate on a low note, losing to the Yale Bulldogs 5-7 at Ingalls Rink.
Men’s
Yale (5-7 L)
With Tom Willander, Brandon Svoboda, and the Coles Hutson and Eiserman out at the World Junior Championship, Nick Roukounakis, Jack Gorton, Doug Grimes and Jack Page stepped into the lineup.
Quinn Hutson opened the scoring for the Terriers just over a minute into the game. Hutson assisted on the first goal exactly one year prior in last year’s matchup with the Bulldogs. The teams would trade goals the rest of the first period, Alex Zetterberg gave BU back their lead with his first road goal as a Terrier exactly seven minutes into the game. After another Yale goal, Ryan Greene sent the teams to the locker rooms with BU in the lead. 3-2. Greene’s goal being his second vs. Yale in as many games vs. the Bulldogs.
Things fell apart in the 2nd with BU giving up two goals early in the 2nd, including a shorthanded goal, leading to Mathieu Caron being pulled in favor of Max Lacroix. Caron gave up 4 goals on 14 shots in 24:06 of play. Quinn Hutson got one back, recording his 2nd of the game. His 7th career multi-goal game and first in a non-conference game. The Terriers allowed 3 more Bulldog goals before Alex Zetterberg scored a consolation goal in the last minute of the game. The goal gave Zetterberg his first career multi-goal game and a career high 3 points.
The Terriers continue to take bad penalties, including another game misconduct, this time on Tristan Amonte. For the 6th time this season, BU recorded 20+ PIM.
The loss was the Terriers’ first loss to the Bulldogs since December 11th, 2015 (2-3). The last (and only other) time BU lost 5-7 to Yale was February 18th, 1978 en route to the Terriers’ 3rd National Championship.
Other Notes
Quinn Hutson becomes the first Terrier since Patrick Harper to record multiple multi-goal games in 3+ seasons.
Between their 5-7 loss in 1978 and this 5-7 loss, BU held a 12-2-3 record against Yale
